With Industrial Innovation, India Can Export GH2

According to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will enable India to become an exporter of green hydrogen alongside industrial innovation.

Speaking at the current Auto Expo 2023, Gadkari said, “India is an energy importer, but with industry innovation, India will be an exporter of Green Hydrogen. The government is pleased that the auto sector is thinking seriously about alternative fuel.”

Recently, the 16th iteration of Auto Expo 2023 was formally inaugurated by the Union Minister. Nitin Gadkari attended the session, along with Mahendra Nath Pandey, a Union Minister, and representatives from many businesses, including SIAM.

Gadkari also mentioned that the automobile industry is crucial to India’s economy, which has the fastest rate of growth in the world. He pointed out that this sector serves as the Indian economy’s growth engine. “We can use green hydrogen to power trains, planes, trucks, and buses.”

The Union Cabinet approved a Rs 19,744 crore incentive package on January 4 to encourage the production of green hydrogen in the nation to reduce emissions, providing a significant boost for clean energy.

Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, had stated that the National Green Hydrogen Mission is anticipated to bring in investments totaling Rs 8 lakh crore in the green hydrogen chain.

Incentives would help down the cost as India aspires to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually over the next five years.

Gadkari had earlier tweeted, “In Amrit Kaal, this mission will make India a Global Hub for the production, usage, and export of Green Hydrogen and its byproducts,” echoing the Government’s ambitious aim towards clean energy.

By splitting water, carbon-free hydrogen that may be utilised as a fuel for cars and an energy source in businesses like steel mills and oil refineries is created. Green hydrogen is created when water is electrolyzed using electricity obtained from renewable sources, such as the sun. A by-product of this procedure is oxygen.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, MG Motors, Kia Motors, Hyundai, and other automakers debuted new models during the opening of the ongoing Auto Expo.

Brands made significant bets on electric vehicles throughout the two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler vehicle categories as the first day of Auto Expo 2023 came to a close. While Hyundai had a star-studded ceremony with actor Shah Rukh Khan presenting the Ioniq 5 EV at the event, Maruti Suzuki displayed its concept electric SUV, the EV X. Curvv and Avinya are two concept electric vehicles by Tata Motors.

According to a statement from SIAM, the event’s organiser, this exhibition’s 16th edition explores the industry’s vision of the most cutting-edge futuristic green technology for a safer, cleaner, greener, and connected society.
